Thai police, acting on a tip from U.S. Homeland Security, arrested a German national accused of operating a dark web platform selling child pornography. The suspect, identified as Steffen, was detained at a condo in Chonburi’s Bang Lamung district. Authorities seized laptops, servers, phones, and storage devices containing 140,000 illegal files, bank accounts, and SIM cards.
Pol Maj-General Athip Pongsivapai of Thailand’s Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) stated that Steffen allegedly produced and distributed disturbing content—including hidden camera recordings and explicit videos—through members-only dark websites. Users paid with cryptocurrency, deducting credits to view or download videos.
Money Trail: Digital Wallets and Laundering Tactics
Investigators traced a sophisticated scheme to hide profits. Steffen reportedly moved earnings through multiple crypto wallets, converting funds into Thai baht to disguise their origin. His operation allegedly earned 3.5 million baht (over $95,000) from 10,000+ members across two websites hosting 5,000+ abusive videos.
“This was a business built on exploiting innocent children,” said Pol Col Supoj Phumyaem, TCSD Superintendent. Steffen admitted using programming skills learned in Germany to build and manage the platforms.
Global Teamwork Brings Down Predator
The arrest highlights international efforts to fight online child abuse. U.S. agencies tracked dark web transactions to Thailand, triggering the operation. “Crimes like these cross borders,” Maj-General Athip stressed. “Global unity is key to protecting victims.”
Steffen now faces charges including:

Trading illegal materials
Money laundering
Spreading abusive content online

During the raid, police found evidence directly tying Steffen to the sites. He confessed to running the platforms for years, targeting minors for profit. Authorities are analyzing seized data to identify victims and potential accomplices.
